All Very interesting Tassels I have seen before. Attached are photos of a recently acquired Shin-Gunto with a different tassel. I am hoping someone will recognize and give me some information about it. See attached and also see my posting with the sword on the board topic # 55676 posted by me. Any thoughts would be appreciated..As an amatuer collector of these swords over the years this is a new one for me that I have not seen at any of the US Japanese Sword Shows. The bottom sword with leather scabbard shows the leather tassel identical to an officers tassel not like any NCO I have ever seen. Edward G.

I have attached pictures of this along with a comparison of a normal Officers Tassel side by side. The bottom sword has the leather tassel. Any comments woud be greatly appreciated.. Edward G

Thank You Rawa, Sweet Guy Joe, and Bruce for all the comments. I would welcome any further thoughts about the sword.... I think it is a great addition to my humble collection. A friend told me that these type of smaller scale swords were crew swords for pilots, tank crews, etc. Any comments on that subject? Edward G

Certainly, not an expert but I do have a type 94 gunto for comparison. This one though is different from most of my Guntos, it appears to be a smaller scale version of a Shin-Gunto sword. The top sword is a Type 94 in picture 1 & 2. I have enclosed more of the handle. Hope this adds to the information Edward G

Good afternoon all: I recently acauired this old Wakizashi with a Koi-toshi Hi. The pictures attached are as I recieved the bladeout of the Veteran Estate so not a prefect condition specimen. In any event, I would like to get some opinions as to how old the blade may be in age and possibly which school, den, or maker? It is two hole tang, possibly surigae, and quite old from what my amatuer eyes see. The Nagasa at present measures about 21 1/2 inches. The nakago file marks are quite faint. The Gunto Handle has a faded Lt Grade Tassel and also a Mon from Maeda Toshiiye Family. Any thought or opions would be deeply appreciated. Edward G

Rawa: II will admit I am not the best photographer. However, I think the attached pictures are more detailed than the last ones. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you again for the information Edward G

Rawa: Attached are more photos of the Emura. You were correct the nagasa is over Katana Length closer to 26 1/2 inches. Hope these pictures are what you were looking for. In any event, pleae give me your overall opinion on the sword. I have been somewhat overwelmed the past few days as I aquired this sword along with 5 others as a group and got confuesed on the length of the blade. If I might ask, please share with me your value thoughts on this particular sword. Mounts are excellent original condition with a Lt grade tassel and pierced Tsuba. See Attached Edward G

Good Morning all. Recently acquired type 98 small size configuration Wakizashi blade. I am unsure of the inscription, please confirm what you may think it says. I read it as 'Mura Yuki, or Tomo Yuki". Nagasa is 21 inches. Any thoughts are appreciated. Edward G

Yes . it is my sword. I recently purchased a small collection of swords.... I am enclosing pictures of the tang. No star stamp. Sharp at the Habaki, therefore I am confident it is still a Gendaito Sword. However, some other curious markings. see attached. Your thoughts? Edward G

Attached are photos of a 1944 pattern army officers katana ( Naval landing force type). I cannot make beans out of the tang inscription. My thoughts are that this is an arsenal blade, but no showa stamps anywhere to be found on the tang. Saku on last character. Please look at date side as well. I know it is Showa probably using a month or season iscription . Any help is apprrreciiated. Nagasa is 24 3/4 inches. Edward G

Thank you Ray, you are a scholar and gentleman, I believe you hit the nail on the head with Sada Yuki. Edward G

Attached are pictures of a WW2 Navy sword with an old Wakizashi blade.. I think that the 2 character inscription is read as Suke Yuki. Please confirm if you agree with this. The nagasa measures 19 1/4 inch with a faint visible choji hamon. The tang as you can see has been shortened. The rust color is a rich black. I do not see a listing in Hawleys for this one. Any help with an age esimate or time period would also be appreciated Edward G
