  1. Thanks Uwe. I guess I am as accurate as Russian missiles. Will do Geraint, in a few days after I get to photo it. Cheers
  2. Hi Guys Having been saved by you from buying a katana whose mei ended "(made) in Hanon (China)" , I decided I was still worldly enough to pick up a wakizashi which I am confident is authentic Japanese I generally only shop around for guntos, and know what I am doing there. So this is a bit of a punt. I did not pay a lot for it, so I can take what is to come! I think it says Hiromasa Sadatsuji, but I bet I am wrong, but hopefully not by too much a margin? Pretty please.....
  3. Thanks guys. Lesson to me: Stick to guntos
  4. Guys. Don't shoot me down. I can generally cope with gunto meis, but this is way beyond my abilities. It is clearly, I think, a post war blade. I think it is superb; don't tell me they can etch stainless steel like this! My best go at it; Toto Mi Son Tetsu A Hori ? ? Dai or O Michi No idea what the other markings are Help / thanks
  5. Hi Ian

Don't suppose you could email Richard to see if he replies; I get nothing back from him.

    Cheers

    Mark

  6. Thanks Ian; that is what I have; if you are in contact with him, can you ask him to check his spam box
  7. Hi All I used Richard Adams before and he was great, but now he appears to be AWL :(. Any recommendations? I have a kai gunto where the ito has come loose all the way. Please help
  8. I suspect it is a post-WW2 blade but have no idea. Not sure about it at all. Any help? Cheers
  9. Hello Geraint It is a bit of a marriage / Frankenstein. The saya is later / plastic and too large. I presume the rest is period (WW2). There are some Gendaito characteristics maybe visible, just. But the blade is not in great condition and has some nicks to the cutting edge. No seki / showa stamps. Very small tang.
  10. Thanks Ray, you are a star
  11. Hi Guys Even with my best meditation music, I can not resolve this one I came up with Haritoshi or Hariyasu but know it can not be / is not either. It is an unremarkable gunto blade (no stamps, no other markings) that has been field sharpened, so I am not holding my breath and praying for a pot of gold. But the mei has stumped me, and it would be nice to know. Thanks in anticipation
  12. Spot on. Thanks Piers. And I should know better; I have come across this smith before
  13. Did my best with two reference books but this one is eluding me :( It is on a gunto, of course. No Seki or other stamp. Help please :) Thank you Yoshizane?
  14. Strewth, thanks Uwe. Maybe I can afford the extension now after all
  15. Nope, regular gunto fittings except for habaki.
  16. Yasutsugu (something) Echizen?
  17. Hi John. They are bulk standard gunto mounts, nothing great
  18. The first two characters are Yasutsugu (康継) yes?
  19. OK Geraint, hopefully these are good enough. It is in a gunto; I photo'd the silver habaki as it is well above the norm
