Hello, After some research in the Wakayama I found that most of the Hirata production was in shakudo. However 8th and 9th generation works also in shibuichi and made butterfly among other. So maybe ?! Sharing additionnal photos, just for the pleasure

Hello Geraint, Thanks for your reply. It make sense. Indeed, the kozuka is nice, well done and I enjoy it . For me, this kozuka is late Edo period. It is mumei, so I try to put an attribution on it. I have in mind that shippo were quite rare. The most famous school is Hirata, but I know that some other schools produced some pieces with enamel. However, I don't know which ones. That's why any idea could help me. Thanks

Hello, May I have your opinion on this kozuka ? It has a cloisonné enamel butterfly which leads me to believe that it is from the Hirata school. Could it be another school ? if so, which one ? Thanks

Hello, I had the opportunity to see this tsuba in hand. For me it is not cast. Ok mei is crude, and it is not a great/tight iron quality, but for me it is forged, and have a nice design. IMHO, all posts where photos were circled in red or blue show legits doubts when you just see photos. I looked at the hole in the square, seppa dai, bamboo nodes, etc... for me nothing indicate it is cast. Of course, it is just an opinion and I could be wrong

Hello For me it is a genuine edo period tsuba

Hello, Yes, I sent him a message on the group of our sword club. He replied me on Wednesday evening saying he is back, and with a joke. I didn't asked, but I guess he is probably busy and will post a message here soon.

I have never heard of this. Do you know if it would work to repatinate a shakudo insert on an iron tsuba by exposing it to the sun? how long would it take? sorry for the off-topic

Hello, Thanks for your replies For me, no issue on the nakago, it is ubu and looks consistent with the blade. The color difference is just the shadow because I have the light in my back when I taken the photos.

Hello, Excepted the Ju, I cannot identify the other kanji of this mei on a Koto tanto. Too tricky for me due to bad condition of the nakago. Also the strokes are thin. Does anyone has an idea on the mei ? Thanks

3 nice tsuba. I really like the Fuji san on the Yoshioka one

Piers, unfortunately I didn't bought it too. No funds at this time. Robert, indeed, you could find some tosogu with better carving quality. But here you need to consider the sliding screen workmanship. Not sure it is easy to do. I never see another example since. Nive to know there may be another one like this one ?!

I also see such kozuka. Here is a photo (sorry for its quality, it has been taken around 15 years ago...)
