  1. Hi, My amateur collector judgment based on what I can see on pictures. Sugata and Nakago speaks for Edo period blade. Hamon appears to be Suguha. Blade looks healthy, without huge Ware or aggressive rust. I don't think it is Tadayoshi due to the looks of the Mei and it being on wrong side of Nakago. I can't tell much about the Koshirae as Gunto is not my area of interest. You can try posting (Koshirae topic) in military swords section. That is what I think based on pictures. Still, it will be good if you could show this sword to someone with the knowledge. There are a lot of collectors from USA on this forum.
  2. Hi, Interesting finding during Saya renovation. This Sayagaki was under the lacquer, can anyone please translate?
  3. Hi Bryan, Even if it is Gimei (forgery signature) then it is still legitimate antique Nihonto. Try to shrink/resize pictures and use the guides from forum on how to make the pictures. Make also some measurements of the sword. You will find all 'how to' here on forum. I can't say much from these pictures, but this might be Edo period Katana (1600s/1700s). Tadayoshi blades according to some sources/books are mostly Gimei blades. But who knows, maybe you are lucky. Please try to post some more pictures and measurements. Thanks!
  4. https://streamable.com/m5uzwy I can go 3250$ ... Full return policy if you don't like it.
  5. I forgot to mention that any successful sale will also result in NMB donation.
  6. Hello everyone and thank you for checking. I'm selling my Nihonto collection. You can find more details for each sword in linked topics. I can provide any ownership proof you like but Zoom call with video is, I think, the best option. Asking prices are exactly the same money I paid for each sword. I'm open to offers/negotiation. I'm usually online every week day, but offline during weekends. If needed we can discuss further via Zoom call or Whatsapp. Shipment included in prices. All swords are in Poland/EU so ideal for purchase within EU border (no customs). Return policy! I give you 5 days after you receive the sword to change your mind. If you don't like what you bought, then just send the sword back. If sword is back safe, in same condition as it was sent, then I will give you a full refund minus my shipment costs. 7. @GreyVR Whole bunch of Tsuba that fit Wakizashi:
  8. Kane is in 'square' (on papers) so they assume this character based on attribution. Right? Similar use case:
  9. Is that Shinogi? You guys really think this is Nihonto? This is so weird ...

Unfortunately for me both blade and Koshirae are not what I expected. Flaws were hidden by the dealer/seller and sword needs some 'love' in order to 'shine'. Details, original posting, pictures are here: https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/55815-dealing-with-seller-djcollection If anyone is interested in this project please let me know. I'm open to any offers. Thanks!
  11. To anyone who is still interested. I didn't get any reply, nothing. I guess ignoring people is a working strategy for @djcollection after the sale is done. Think twice before you start doing business with him.
  12. Hi, Very nice indeed, Goto school (I'm still looking for Tsuba BTW) perhaps? I think these are way to nice to go under wrapping and would be ideal (if one wants to put them 'on') for Aikuchi Tanto. Like this:

    Carolyn

Hi, Is it just me or do we have Odachi here? @Carolyn can you please measure the sword? Total length and Nagasa (from Habaki-that copper thing on the sword, to the Kissaki-tip)? Also post more close-up pictures of the blade. Check swords for sale section in this forum to have understanding/examples of what pictures we need. If it is really Bizen Odachi then even as Gimei it will be worth nice sum.
  14. Hi, Apparently Shinsengumi commander Kondo Isami indeed owned a Katana forged by the same Sukeyoshi smith. Reference "Japanese swords and armors" book by Paul Martin. It gives a nice extra touch to this already unique (thickness and Hamon) Tanto. Don't you think?
  15. Hi, Still looking for Goto school Tsuba, Wakizashi size.
  16. I proposed a solution to @djcollection one more time. We will see if he agrees. What I'm asking for is 300$ refund. Sword costs were 1903USD + 146.54 USD shipping + bank2bank transfer fees and customs/tax = 2350$ total what I paid. 2050$ (total cost after refund) for this sword in its current condition is still to much in my opinion. But ... Refund will allow me to either resell the sword cheaper (with all visible flaws) = get back my money, or at least part of it. OR Invest in Koshirae/polish and make this sword worthy = I will keep it to myself as I doubt I can get back money after full invest.
  17. Hello, Please help with translation (and date convert) of below Nakago. Thank you very much!
  18. Hi everyone, I don't think @djcollection will agree on sword return or any refund, as I already tried that. I guess I'm left with this sword for now and need to decide what's next. Reselling it in condition like that is not an option, as I don't want to be next @djcollection. I fully agree. It was my mistake that I trusted him. However, I bought on this forum multiple times (also outside of forum, remotely) and never had such bad experience. I guess I was lucky in past to deal with honest people. I definitely feel scammed/cheated here. This sword might be a good option for Iaido/Kenjutsu/Tameshigiri practice, after fixing all Koshirae issues (or making a new one). Poor polish, rust, Mune/Kissaki Kizu shouldn't be important with that purpose for the sword. @Brian one question to you. I honestly never looked in this forum section (online sales or sellers), I wouldn't find about @djcollection reputation if the only comments were there. I want to make sure every potential buyer is aware of my use case. Can I post in his 'for sale' topics link to this one? My goal is to warn everyone before they start doing business with him.
  19. I found the original advertising in my logs. Please especially check what I highlighted. Here it goes: --------------------- start original posting ------------- Minamoto Sadatsugu is an artistic name for one Imai Sadaichi, who was a respected Seki Chujo-saku tosho who placed highly at numerous Gifu prefecture sword-forging competitions around WW2 period. For Sale – Traditionally Forged Gendaitō by Sadatsugu A WWII gendaito Price: USD 2,200 / EUR 1,920 plus shipping and PayPal fees Presented in a black gloss lacquer saya, and also fitted with an iai koshirae, this is an attractive and substantial traditionally forged gendaitō by Sadatsugu, signed on both sides of the tang. This is a high-grade traditionally forged blade, showing no forging flaws or kitae-ware, and no kizu on either side. It is a healthy, honest gendaitō with very good overall quality, combining strong workmanship, a beautifully cut signature, and an unusual dated inscription that makes it all the more appealing. The mei is deeply and beautifully chiseled by Sadatsugu, with confident strokes and excellent balance. The long inscription reads: 濃州関住人美濃守源貞継謹作 Noshu Seki-jūnin Mino no Kami Minamoto Sadatsugu Kin saku (Gifu) Dated: 昭和十六年極月 Shōwa 16, Gokugetsu December 1941 A particularly attractive detail is the use of 極月 (gokugetsu), an uncommon and more literary way of referring to the last month of the year, rather than using a standard numbered month inscription. This gives the tang an added level of character and makes the date inscription more memorable than the usual wartime examples. The long mei ends in 謹作 (kin saku), which may be understood as “carefully made” or “respectfully made.” On a well-forged nihontō, this has a more deliberate and dignified nuance than a simple saku, suggesting a conscientious and especially careful piece rather than a routine signature. Measurements Nagasa: 67 cm Sori: 1.6 cm Motohaba: 3.2 cm Sakihaba: 2.1 cm This is a hon-zukuri, iori-mune blade with ubu nakago, and it has an appealing, practical sugata with a good balance of width and taper. The jigane is a well-forged tight ko-itame hada. There is ji-nie, with fine chikei visible in the surface, together with a faint pale utsuri-like appearance. These details confirm that this is not a mass-produced showatō, but a genuinely forged traditional blade with visible craftsmanship. The hamon is essentially suguha-based, with a shallow notare movement mixed with gunome. The nioiguchi is bright, indicating the quality of the sword and the skills of the swordsmith. Sadatsugu was a Seki military swordsmith, and I have not seen postwar work by him. This piece appears to be an especially careful work and the quality is clearly above the more routine wartime output often encountered. For collectors looking for a genuine traditionally forged wartime blade with a proper mei, healthy condition, and good visible activity, this is a very appealing example. Looking at the nakago and mei, the workmanship is fully in keeping with authentic Shōwa-period gendaitō. The chisel work is deep, clean, and confident, with even spacing and a natural flow to the characters, rather than the appearance of a later-added or amateur inscription. The nakago shape, yasurime, and patina are all consistent with the period, and the blade and tang are in very good harmony overall. In addition to the blade itself, the inclusion of both a black gloss lacquer koshirae and an iai koshirae adds practical and display value. It can be appreciated both as a collectible wartime traditionally forged sword and as a piece that presents well as a complete item. Overall, this is a healthy, traditionally forged, signed gendaitō with: an attractive and fully cut long mei on both sides a rare and memorable gokugetsu date inscription a desirable kin saku ending visible hada no forging flaws or obvious condition concerns A very good opportunity to acquire a genuine signed wartime gendaitō with character and quality at a reasonable price. Price: USD 2,200 / EUR 1,920 Plus shipping and PayPal fees
  20. Cracks are around 2,5cm and 1cm long.
  21. It is one side, can't be removed by Uchiko but should be removed with proper polish (as per initial info from polisher). Yeah, I used electron microscope to do the pictures, not a build in camera from cheap Motorola smartphone ... again, I can't tell if you are joking or being serious, as these type of comments are so ridiculous. Yes it does. I don't need to use my spectacles or magnifying glass to see it. I recommend eye check for yourself if you missed these flaws. Well, you either missed the spot or the rust was there and just 'evolved'. Per info from polisher it is to deep for a 1,5month fresh rust. Still, that is not the biggest issue. Kissaki is the main problem. Also caracks on Mune are not what I expected from (your words here) "no forging flaws" blade. Same here.
  22. Hi, I don't have full advertisement, I didn't take screenshots at that time as I didn't expect I will need it. It is also already delete and I'm not sure if @Brian can/will add it again. I do however have part of the advertisement + like I mentioned, none of the flaws were mentioned anywhere. Not on pictures or in the description. I don't think I will get any compensation and I need to decide what to do with the sword. In current state it does not fit my collection. Polish and a proper (made for this sword) Koshirae is a minimum. But we all know the costs of that. From 2.1k$ sword it will be ... exactly. If I knew the total costs I would definitely skip this offer. I could buy much better piece for that money. Anyway, everyone will make their own decisions. I know one thing, I wouldn't buy anything from @djcollection and I do recommend to stay away. Cheers!
