  1. Just an interesting statistic... Out of my last 4 ebay transactions, both buying and selling, I have 3 that are being disputed. Buying disputes include a misrepresented saya and an item not received; selling, an item not paid. Althought the 4th has yet to pay, I am feeling lucky:) Lucky number 4. Sometimes I think part off the fun with ebay is the gamble. Unfortunately, I might get better odds with a scratch off ticket. Jon
  2. Here is an interesting article I wrote about Reisen Sadamori. One of the shinsa points of Sadamori is hoso sugaha. http://www.onihonto.com/Nihonto.html Hope it helps. Jon
  3. John: It sure looks like it. I think the previous owner was an aspiring ninja. The blade needs a good polish for sure. Every silver lining has a cloud. Jon
  4. Here are some pics of the blade as requested: Jon
  5. Thanks for your quick replies. I will try to take some blade pics tonight. It's polish it rough and scratched. Hopefully, I can capture the hamon. I am happy it looks to be a Gendaito. Major crapshoot on this one. The previous owner did much of his own restoration work on the saya and tsuka. The tsuka was wrapped in purple nylon cord.lol He even made his own tsuba, which did not come out half bad. I am actually pretty impressed. Jon
  6. I recently found this one in Naval Mounts. The hamon is chogi and it seems to have an extended kissaki. I am not sure because the ridge line is worn down. The best I can come up with is kane, Hide-Mitsu??? Got a feeling I am way off. The Kanji Pages seems to be cutting off the mei page. Any input would be appreciated, Thanks, Jon
  7. Thanks Folks! As always, you are a wealth of knowledge. I learn something new every time. Jon
  8. Help requested: Having trouble with this one: Hiromitsu Saku??? I am assuming the first two kanji is the township, then mitsu XXXX mitsu? Thanks, Jon
  9. I noticed that too. Jon
  10. Thanks all. Jon
  11. Hi Mark: Sakakura no shin Terukane. Unless his mei changed throughout time, it looks to be gimei, judging by the examples in Fujishiro and on-line. Also different from authentic examples, the nakago is rounded, not kuri juri. Am I on the right track? Jon
  12. Hello: I found a sword which was previously compromised by the old steel wool to the nakago trick. I cannot, for the life of me, decipher the mei, never mind authenticate it. Such assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jon

    Yasuyo?

I recently acquired a katana with the mei Yasuyo. After doing some research, I realized this smith is a National Treasure maker and it's probably gimei. But, imagine if... If you'd like, let me know what you think. Sorry, no pics of the blade. it is in need of polish. Looks like someone hit it with a buffing wheel Jon
  14. FYI... I just got a letter from the FLTK c.o. Troy Baxley. It states their Tampa Sword Show is done. I wonder if this means Al Bardi is not going to continue the show? Jon
  15. I was thinking some Hasebe smith. Any chance? Jon
  16. My mind is at ease. I will take some before and after pics. I feel confident tackling this project. Thanks for the info folks. Jon
  17. I will be attempting to restore a saya. Do I have to be concerned with lead based paint when sanding? Just curious for obvious reasons. Thanks ahead of time, Jon
  18. Much appreciation for your help folks. I was just happy to get the Kanetsugu correct. LOL Thanks, Jon
  19. Hi: I tried translating this nakago for a showato. My best guess is Bishu Kanetsugu something. This sword will be going on ebay and I want to give an accurate description. Thanks ahead of time for any help. Jon
  20. I would like to see some of the Samurai Armor collectors/dealers there. Are there any sites like this dedicated to armor that we could advertise the show on? I believe there would be much crossover interest. Jon
  21. Hi NMB: I found a very unique tsuka configuration. What is strange is the red color under the wrap. Has anyone ever seen this before in a real sword? Thanks, Jon
  22. Kind Folks: Thanks for your replies. Sorry about the pictures. Those are high quality for my camera.LOL I will be putting the kozuka on my website, so I wanted to get at least a general description. BTW, I think late edo too, but I am far from an expert on fittings. Jon
  23. Does anyone know the school that this kozuka might be attributed to? Thanks, Jon
  24. To All: Any ideas of what it could be? Could it be Nambokuchu, possibly Bizen? I guess I am hoping for Kanemitsu because of the boshi. Thats my guess. Jon
