  6. Hi all, Purchased this as I had not seen a dated example! Im not that flash with translations at the best of times but theres a couple here that have us stumped, any help at all on a translation and date would be greatly appreciated. 7. Hi all Joining this a bit late but Im reading 'carried by a samurai'- so matched swords- same maker and matched koshirae made this century dont qualify as daisho? Was one for sale on this forum last 6/12 mths doesnot qualify- not carried by a samurai? Think it was mukasa smith aswell? Think some are "Romancing the stone" - sorry its a daisho regardless of period.
  8. Hi Brian, opened forum and was directed to this page. Great idea to keep us on the straight and narrow. Wish I could catch up in US but not possibly this year- maybe next!! Have a good one and many thanks for all you do for this forum. Regards
  9. Hi Piers, thank you for dropping by- yes I think it is a nice stand- price probably will be too! Dale, many thanks for the Jolly info, much appreciated- thought there had to be a story behind the image. Thank you both for the info- wish me luck! Cheers
  10. Hi all, Many thanks to Brian and admisters of this forum and all who participate with their experience and knowledge- much appreciated. Found this on a tachi stand and perplexed on the graphic I have include? Any back story- debating on entering auction?
  11. Not sure if its just me but this looks like sperm ready to hit the trail to the target- Thoughts? Must be a Chinese copy surely! What a hoot- if not what are the tadpoles up to? Lung fish??
  12. Hi Dan, I have never come across a kogai that would sharpen a blade - all have been non ferrous. Dont forget the dandyism in relation to samurai- was a big thing to look special! Cheers
  13. Hi , agree with Darrel, ikinko,! We need to see the backs of these please. Cheers
  14. Hi John, Thank you so much. Thats it. Cheers Mike
  15. Hi all, Firstly many thanks to Brian and moderators for this forum- checkin daily! I am wondering if anyone has the link to a cutting test video that was posted on the board. The katana had been made for the test and the maker/ smith was present when used- it was in Japanese? A long shot but you never know? Many thanks for your anticipated help. Cheers Mike

  18. Hi all, Firstly many thanks to Brian and moderators for this forum- a daily visit for me! Also many thanks for past and future help/ advice from all members kind enough to view and comment. Pics are of a box that contain a pair of Noh mask menuki. Is it possible to translate the 'box'agaki( love to know the term for this type of ' attribution- if it is?) Many thanks in anticipation- sadly no pics of menuki as yet- thinking of purchasing? Cheers
  19. I have these, been collecting for a koshirae. Have horse menuki but no fuchi/ kashira yet but still watching.
  20. Hi all, Sorry only have phone and don't know how to send a link for better pics- where is a teenager when you need one? They reached 220,000 yen, then pulled and relisted starting at 220,000yen- yep- not surprising. My main reason for posting was the fact that they aren't a set- but papered as a set. Both mumei and if sold separately would be extremely lucky to realise 100,000 for the two! Poor form I think on behalf of NBTHK - regardless of 50 years ago- but sadly not surprising. Buyer beware!
  21. Hi Piers, Apologies for pics, screen shots off listing. Yes mumei so I was wondering about Munenori? No attribution on paper I suppose- rare for that anyway I think. Probably can't see but menuki has subtle gold/ brass highlights and completely different foliage- just surprises me that this could all be papered the one? So grey or green- reliable? Cheers
  22. Hi all, Just interested? Came across these in Japan. Firstly I can't see how these are a match- the foliage doesn't seem to match - but maybe me! Due to this I was surprised to see an origami with all on it! Can't translate it so wondering if there is any clues on it? Also is the same stigma with grey papered tosogu as with blades? Regards and thanks
  23. Hi Franco, Interesting. Somethings I have been considering - the asthetic difference from side to side- colour and texture? Also the retention of the mei( if its done before yakiire) by not polishing omote-even though nearly all are gimei or honorary? Lastly- friction- when fitted to the saya the top face( mei unpolished) rubs on the inside of the slot- usually horn( cant find name of it at the moment)- and the crude yasurime 'bites' so it stays in under friction. Why polish - regardless if it has a hamon when it will be just rubbed - waste of time and money really. Just rambling thoughts! Cheers
  24. Hi Aiden, Just found this on yahoo.jp. Its modern but shows hamon and mei and look closely you can also see the hamon on the omote! Mei cut in on non hardened material just like horimono! Cheers
