  1. An amateur restoration might have included chrome plating the blade which would also account for the heat affected nakago

  3. Sort of on topic, I have always wondered if hagire could be repaired using the Japanese art of Kintsugi. As a weapon it wouldn't pass , but as a work of art? Gold is used to fill mekugi-ana...so why not hagire? Simon K

    Tanto Help

For reference, here is an interesting Kikuchi Yari I own. Best guess is it was cut down and the mei placed on the mune. Simon K
  14. Neil, Have a look at this link http://www.jssus.org/nkp/index.html Its a good one to learn from First two characters are the Kuni( province) and the last two kanji are the swordsmiths name. Simon K
  15. Hi Charles, Have a look at this previous thread http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/7730-gendai-gunto-mounts-xxx-tsuna/ Cheers Simon K
  16. Thanks Stephen and Mark, Munehiro certainly had a few variations on his mei by the look of it. I notice the Hiro kanji is different yet the few oshigata I have seen show the one used on my blade. Simon K
  17. Recently acquired an O tanto and having translated the mei ( correctly I hope), i cannot get an exact match and was wondering if anyone has seen an example of this signing. Mei reads - Higo no Kuni ju Enju Taro Munehiro. Dated Tenpo , 7th year Thanks Simon K
  18. Halsey, As a straight translation on the top three I would say 1.Yamato Daijyo Fujiwara Sadayuki 2.Echizen ju Shimosaka 3.Nobukuni Yoshisada..........maybe
  19. It's the real deal Matt, Try looking at the Mino School, Noshu ...Seki... and the smiths name is ##### nori, that should get you started . Cheers Simon ( Melbourne)
  20. Hi Jantonu, I think your sword inscription reads as follows- Omote- Sunshu Shimada ju Ura - Mikawa no Kami Minamoto Sadasuke Full reading - Sunshu Shimada ju Mikawa no Kami Minamoto Sadasuke There is no date on your sword, possibly first generation working 1624 Simon K

    Is it fatal?

Mark No mention of the flaw at all which is why I was pleased with the result. Chris I thought 72 was a good average score but maybe it was marked down due to the flaw? I still enjoy alot. Simon K

    Is it fatal?

The blade did go to shinsa and received a score of 72. It was papered to Sandai Etchu no kami Masatoshi and shown as one of the best blades at the shinsa closing. The flaw was never mentioned. :D Simon. K
  24. Thank you Jean, I think I will give it a miss. Simon K
