  1. I've just started becoming interested in samurai jingasa hats. What is the most important thing to look out for to ensure the genuine age of the hat and overall quality?
  2. I'm not sure about yoshindo selling outside of Japan, I can't comment on that. I've bought a couple of shinsakuto over the years from swordstore and a steel iaito. I think he only deals with the Kimura smiths in Kumamoto. I had only one bad and two good experiences buying these swords. if you want to know more PM me
  3. Definitely not an easy task. I've tried myself for years albeit with nothing more than camera phones, still can't make them look good
  4. Thanks Ken! I've always heard about rice glue, never tried it. Time to give it a go.
  5. Last year I had Fred Lohman repair my saya that had split with a samegawa wrap. Now in our cold dry weather the glue or resin they use to glue the same gawa is starting to peel back at the wrap seam. What's the best epoxy to use to glue it back down? Thanks in advance Jeremy
  6. Thanks for all the opinions and advice gentlemen. Much appreciated. Jeremy
  7. Thanks for these advice. I will ask these questions and make my decision based upon all the advice given here. Jeremy
  8. Awesome thanks for the replies.
  9. One more pic if that helps decide if it's healthy. To me it looks healthy and not tired. What do you guys think? thanks in advance. Jeremy
  10. Yeah I'm not fussed about papers and famous signatures etc, I was more concerned about the condition and whether or not it seems it's tired or not. Thanks Jeremy
  11. Hi guys I am interested in buying this tanto from aoi art. All I really want to know is if you guys think it looks tired or if it's had one too many polishes in its life time. https://www.aoijapan.com/tanto-mumei-2/ Thanks Jeremy
  12. Actually it is a shinken made in Japan with a Japanese made saya, so I doubt any old saya will fit it unfortunately. I've contacted fred Lohman and randy for now, compare prices etc and take it from there. Thanks for all the advice. Jeremy
  13. Hi Ken I think my saya is bad enough to have it fixed with a samegawa wrap, the longest crack is about 10 inches starting from the koiguchi, and hairline cracks on the other side. I don't feel confident enough doing it myself. The best would be to get a new saya made but that would mean I'd have to send my blade overseas which Im trying to avoid if I can help it. Thanks again Jeremy
  14. Thanks for the suggestions. Actually my current saya is cracked, and may be salvaged with a samegawa wrap to strengthen and prevent it from cracking further. Would any of these gentlemen do this type of work also? Thanks Jeremy
  15. Hi guys I'm in the need of a new saya for my nihonto which I use for iaido. What's the best place to get a new saya made? Anywhere in USA maybe? Cheers Jeremy
  16. The koto wakizashi I have for sale has something similar in the shinogi ji which is a umegane. Jeremy
  17. Thank you. He seems genuine and I truly hope noone was offended in the process. The fact that he isn't a member here made me a bit more worried. Jeremy
  18. Thanks for the reply guys. We've decided to do the transaction with Western union instead. Jeremy
  19. Hi Stephen I'm not sure what his username is here as he contacted my privately via email. His email name is Krasimir Koev. I've read some horror stories of people getting screwed over with PayPal payment. I'm just trying to ascertain this buyer.thanks Jeremy
  20. Just wanted to know if anyone has dealt with Krasimir from Bulgaria. He wants to buy a sword from me and wants to pay with PayPal. After reading some horror stories here with PayPal I've become a bit cautious. Has anyone dealt with him before? If this is in the wrong section feel free to move it wherever it needs to be. Regards Jeremy
  21. I guess I didn't word it as well as you ken, but that's essentially what i meant ☺ Jeremy
  22. Depends what one means by fatal flaw. Normally to me it means a sword that has become rendered useless as a weapon which in this case is definitely not the case, which to me isn't a fatal flaw Jeremy

    Bohi

Thank you! Does he have an account here or an email perhaps? I live in Australia so maybe calling him with the time differences may not be all that convenient for either of us. Cheers Jeremy
