  1. Nice find. agreed with Stephen. The history of the blade is IMO it's greatest asset.
  2. Matt this is great. I am so sorry i was not there. Please let me know when you will be back that way.
  3. Is all work on this sword your own work? blade, saya, everything?
  4. Ford I heard you thought the fuchi kashira might be much newer. can you tell me what things and how to spot them, would make you think that?
  5. I think this has a very unique and exciting look to it.
  6. Mark did you think the shi shi are gold and shakudo or gold on copper?
  7. I visited mark today and blew a tire right as I pulled in. that was not fun. But I did happen to get some pictures taken of the menuki so I hope Mark posts them soon.
  8. it is alot like tobyaki, muneyaki, and the hamon. I can post a poor quality picture. the togishi who had the blade said the blade was interconnectedly tempered. where the hamon, the mune and parts of the shinogi and ji (part between shinogi and yakaba) were tempered, but also untempered. I remembered reading somewhere about a style that tempered the shinogi area along with the ha and parts of the mune, as they believed it made a stronger sword. you cannot see the muneyaki clearly here, but you can see the diffeance in temper in the blade.
  9. If a blade has a tempered hamon, muneyaki, and a tempered shinogi but untempered in between each section what style is that?
  10. Thank you all for your help. I had noticed a couple sets of menuki that i thought if we had a better way of translating or a good board friend in Japan that helps out I may be able to give it a try. lots of neat stuff on it
  11. I am trying to use the links provided by this wonderful community, and I am lost as it gets to Japan. I do not speak Japanese, and when i use the link I am so oconfused i do not know where to enter a bid, how to enter a bid, or how much time is left. Is there any one on here far more versed than I?
  12. I cannot crop because then the stupid windows viewer says it can not open the file. nothing changes just the size.
  13. having trouble with this thing. it scans them, but then when i open the scan the picture is blank and says my computer doesn't support this format??? the only thing that changes is the dpi I don't get it.
  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/K-Japanese-SWORD-TO ... 255aa51e66 does this piece look juyo? why is it worthy juyo? The blade did not look very impressive to me on the vid.
  15. thank you for the tip stephen I was having trouble.
  16. looks like a polished out horimono to me.
  17. lol it is actually a black shirt. when I crank the dpi to 1200 (the only setting available after 600) it will not let me post the picture. I don't understand it. It is my computer not the site. I will be visiting Mark very soon, and he is great at macro shots. i think that will help them look much better.
  18. While I would normally agree with this, I have been talking to a lot of Japanese dealers, and this seems to be the trend for the majority. Reason being, they say it is a pain in the ass to get nihonto back in for permanenet stay once they turn in the art certificate. I didn't comment much about the sword because i do not want to interfere with his sale in public, but I did pm him about looking "deeper" and finding the right "opening" *wink in the blade.... if you catch my drift.
  19. study the pictures. and look "deep" into the blade. you may see some things that will influence your opinion away from the blade.
  20. on a complete;y non nihonto note..... the fruits mentioned above make wonderful bonsai subjects!
  21. thank you. the hotei are much better looking. i don't know why the scanner made them look weird or splotchy. they are actually very smooth and perfectly smooth and even patina. the one has the ever slightest bit of wear on his nose. but it actually accents his face better. Great looking pieces. Maybe I can get mark to use the macro setting on his camera.
  22. I bought a few gummed up dirty tsukas, to use as a project for building handles for my nihonto using antique period correct pieces. the fuchi and kashira were basically rotting off, but there were some menuki hidden under the rotting silk. I soaked them in water and soap, and then rubbed my hand on them with a lil baking soda, and low and behold these showed up: Now mind you I used a scanner, and they do not sit even making them very blurry. These are far better in person. The detail is amazing. The Hotei are shakudo with gold and silver gilt. The face and hands are silver, while the sack is gold. the shi shi seem to be copper base with gold gilt I enjoy that hotei has all his fingers, his dimples, his eyes, his eyballs, his chin, his lips then and his nipples and belly button lol. very nice of them to add all the details LOL
  23. looks like horse armor? with crop?
  24. If someone from the board bought it and verified they found it through the board, I may be able to get him to donate. He mentioned he was very happy with the help here.
