pcfarrar Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Picked up an interesting wak signed Omi Kami Fuji .. the nagasa is 19" and the blade is full of nie and sungashi. I wondered if it could be a Tsuguhira? The mei does not look like any of the early generations I can find. But the hamon is very similar in style. Anyone know of any other smiths that signed this way? Quote
Stephen Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 peter perhaps Tsuguhiro attached is the mei off my wak, and a shot of the window i had done a few years back. hope this helps Quote
Ed Harbulak Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Sho-Shin.com lists 45 smiths with the Omi (no) Kami title. If you down load "Titles of Japanese Swordsmiths" from http://www.Sho-Shin.com you will have a handy reference for tracking down all the swordsmiths who had a title. Extremely handy when a blade is suriage and all that's left of the mei is the title. At least it greatly narrows the search for the possible smith. Ed Harbulak Quote
Stephen Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 did a side by side on the mei looks close until the fuji comes then its to dark....could be the same guy. Quote
pcfarrar Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 Hi Stephen, Does look very close to your Tsuguhiro! The hamon is also quite similar. Want to buy it from me and have a daisho  Quote
pcfarrar Posted May 13, 2008 Author Report Posted May 13, 2008 Is this wak worth submitting at the NTHK shinsa in the UK later in the year? Or do I have a risk of it being gimei? Quote
Brian Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Peter, Since when do we not have a chance of it being gimei? :D I would say try it. Looks like a nice blade, and if it comes back as gimei, then I can buy it at a good price :D Some other Tsuguhira (Tsugihiro?) here: http://www.nihonto.us/OMI%20NO%20KAMI%2 ... KATANA.htm http://www.satcho.com/Nihonto/Nihonto.htm Brian Quote
pcfarrar Posted May 13, 2008 Author Report Posted May 13, 2008 I've got four shinsa slots so this will probably be one of my submissions. The other three are going to be safe mumei swords  The mei does look pretty close to Tsuguhiro examples I've found and also the workmanship in the blade seems to match the school. Quote
