Eric H Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 Hi Reinier This is my koi, 46 cm, "captured" in 1979 Best regards Eric Quote
Reinier Posted May 6, 2007 Author Report Posted May 6, 2007 wow nice what is it? just a wooden statue or does it have some special purpose/meaning? you mean it was made in 1979? where can i get one? (: Quote
Brian Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 Great carving..nice display piece. Here is a tsuba I picked up at a market in Tokyo recently. It shows a carp climbing a waterfall....a Chinese legend about the carp crossing the rapids of Lung Men (Dragon Gate) and turning into a Dragon. The carp represents valor and perservance. Nice theme you picked. I saw lots of carp fittings there, so you won't run short of items to buy...just money :D Regards, Brian Quote
Bungo Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 here's one tsuba I saw at the chicago show. Usually I don't like namban tsuba but this one impress me enough for me to take the pic. theme is carp jumping over the gate and become a dragon. At bottom lof nakago ana you can see the temple gate, around that, look closely and you'll find half carp, half dragon as they transform............. milt the ronin Quote
Bungo Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 I am not sure but is that box originally belong to the wood carp ? I think it says a pair ( of screen)................. milt the ronin Quote
Eric H Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 Hi Reinier It is a "okimono" and since 1979 in my collection. Regards Eric Quote
Eric H Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 Hi Bungo The carp was sold together with this box. Now it seems that there is no direct relation to the carp. Could you please translate the makers name ? Sorry for delayed answer. Regards Eric Quote
Bob M. Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 While playing with a new camera , I came across this tsuba in my collection - just thought it might be on topic. I believe it was made as an exhibition piece. Bob Quote
Reinier Posted May 12, 2007 Author Report Posted May 12, 2007 it's beautiful (: an exhibition piece? you mean it's not old? Quote
Bob M. Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 I understand it to be mid 19th cent. , Ichi-ryu school ( Mito ) by Mitsuyoshi. The inscription on the front face says about accepting orders for this tsuba. Maybe a 'tourist' piece ? Opinions anyone ? Bob M Quote
