Henry Wilson Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 A while ago I asked about the themes expressed in tosogu and what I thought was a lack of some sea animals being represented. You guys helped me out then so on the same kind of note, does anyone have any examples were stars (as in the things in the night sky, not Tom Cruise and Nicole Kiddman :| ) are depicted in tosogu? Thanks Quote
Brian Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Hi Henry, Most of the star designs I have seen, have involved star constellations. I have a nice pic in one of my auction catalogs, but have to go find it. For constellations, here are a few links: http://www.trocadero.com/faganarms/item ... store.html http://www.imagine.org.uk/details/index ... Rich T Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Akasaka Tadatoki was alive today (*any of them actually) he/they would be flying the space shuttle. Check out the Sano Akasaka Sukashi book for several excellent constelation themes. Rich Quote
Martin Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 Hi Henry, there´s one on ebay with a stars theme right now http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-STYLE-ANTIQUE- ... dZViewItem cheers, Martin Quote
Rich T Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 I am not sure about the Muromachi call, looks later than that. It may be an Edo period Myochin in the Katchu style going by the masame (cut stone) hada. I can just see the samurai now, all gathering around the sword, working out exactly where they are :-) Cheers Rich Quote
Steve Waszak Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 I agree with Rich on this ebay piece: Edo period (18th-century) Myochin, based on the masame and the shape. Looks like some nice iron from here, though... Quote
