philosopher38 Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the forum but I've been searching all over the net on how to identify if a Shin Gunto sword is real or fake. I read some other topics and comments and found most of you guys are pretty legit. So here goes, can you guys help, I'm almost 99% sure it's a fake but it's always nice to be reassured. Quote
Mark Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 your 99% is 100% correct, it is a fake, sorry Quote
philosopher38 Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 Could you possibly explain why it is a fake. That way I like know for sure and don't have to bother anyone anymore. Also My father insists it's real and I just need to show him why it isn't Quote
Mark Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 it is sort of a matter of experiance... if you look around the web there is a lot of information, google "fake Japanese sword", there is info on thos site, Grey (a member) has a lot of info on his eBay page, there is no habaki (not Japanese), the handle looks to be brass, like an NCO sword, Japanese did not make a brass handled NCO (they did a copper handle). The groove is not in the right place etc etc etc Quote
Grey Doffin Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Here is a link to my side by side of real and fake: http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl ... d=greyguy0 Not many of the details of your sword will be shown on my page; I think maybe your fake is older and different from the many that show up all over ebay now. But your sword is a fake; pretty much everything about it is wrong. Grey Quote
BenoitD Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 This is a really bad sword. Not only a fake but one of the worst I have seen. Go to Ohmura site and study, study, study ... Good luck. http://www.h4.dion.ne.jp/~t-ohmura/gunto_002.htm Benoit D Quote
