Lindus Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 My translation skills are now pretty rusty, plus the world of Teppo has no Fujishiro or Hawley to fall back on. Any help with both the inscriptions would be much appreciated. Roy Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 On the stock I can see 二十二 and then 伴 治兵衛 昌芳 On the barrel 江州国友藤太郎 重當 Now, how to say those names in English! Stock. Tomo(Suke) Nobu(?)hei Masayoshi (So many possible readings of the same Kanji...) The barrel probably proclaims (Ohmi) Go-shu Kunitomo Fujitaro Juto (or Shigetomi) Will check the books for possible more accurate readings this evening. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Found a record of the Daishi (gunstock) maker. Listed as working in the Tempo Era. The gunsmith name may be read not Fujitaro, but Totaro. The final Juto (Shigetomi)? is not in the lists and the closest I can find recorded is Goshu Kunitomo Totaro Shigekiyo Quote
Nobody Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 I think that 重當 reads Shigemasa. And a common reading for 伴治兵衛 is Ban Jihe’e/Jihei. Quote
