Ludolf Richter Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 Hi Fred, here are some examples from my database.I post them here.Ludolf Quote
Ludolf Richter Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 Why don't you tell the forum, what problems you have with Hirado Kunishige,in order to share the knowledge of our experts. I do have problems with him: 1.There are differences with the quality of the "Hirado-Kunishige"-pieces in the books 2.There are differences with the signatures in the books 3.Haynes mentions Japanese sources, that there may have been a 2nd or even 3rd generation I have no idea, whether my well-made "Hirado-Kunishige"-Kozuka is authentic or faked.Ludolf Quote
Fred Geyer Posted September 21, 2011 Author Report Posted September 21, 2011 well I am studying his works, and yes there are outstanding works by him that are great and then you have so-so with different mei. So untill I have everything put togeather I did not want to plug up this site with just "stuff"!! Fred Quote
christianmalterre Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 Ludolf,Fred, Do we have an example of an NBTHK certified and authentic one? who shall be the "Shodai"? The differences in working plus of course in the ciseling of the Mei-are of course striking here on those post examples... I do not have any relevant comparison piece here-so i would be keen so to see one which shall be "real"... Christian Quote

Soshin Posted September 23, 2011 Report Posted September 23, 2011 Hi Fred G., You need to check out the NBTHK Token Bijutsu issue #647 (12/2010). They have the whole issue focused on the tosogu works of Hirado Kunishige. I can email scans of the issue if you don't already have it. I was meaning to send you a email about your custom tsuba boxes for sale anyway. Take care and I hope I was helpful. Yours truly, David Stiles Quote
Fred Geyer Posted September 24, 2011 Author Report Posted September 24, 2011 David, Thanks, I will look for the issue I should have it unless my wife tossed it!!..I just picked up 6 boxes my Dad did out of a tree base that was cut down in the 1930's that are the best ones I have ever seen in grain and color, they are just outstanding examples that can never be reproduced. He polished the wood with buffing wheels and 2000 grit before he put them togeather. They are $200 each, I know that is alot but when you see them and the time it takes to make one. Also only selling 5 of them I am keeping one. Fred Quote
