johnb Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 I have now taken receipt of the tsuba I purchased. It seems very pleasing to me and the detail is quiet remarkable, particularly the ducks beak. I also love the way the waves seem fade off into the distance. However the boat looks a little clumsy, although I saw another tsuba signed Kaneie it also had a boat which was quite similar to the one on this tsuba. Interested to hear what those in the know have to say? JohnB Quote
christianmalterre Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 Dear John, well,i think the answer is very simple here. If you like it,and it feels you very pleasing with-you made an good choice for yourself. If you want to know more about the several Kaneie which did produce Tsuba/and did sign, just pick up the literature so to do your´s own study. There are two excellent publications specialised on "Him" plus the others who signed their´s works available at Koshoyama(see the Book links Brian did post so generously...)-just for example here;of course there are but equally others dealing in good reference-literature,too... Soshin Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 Hi John B., I hinted at this in some of my earlier posts about this tsuba. I don't think this tsuba is a product of the two great generations of Kaneie masters of Momoyama and early Edo Periods nor should it just be considered a gimei. I think it is a fairly good representation of the middle Edo Period Saga Kaneie school. Another common name for this school is the Tetsujin school. During the middle Edo period Kaneie style tsuba were very popular and some other schools including Umetada school started making tsuba in that style. The Saga Kaneie school unlike the Umetada school would always sign their tsuba using a mei style of the second Kaneie. Just my two cents. I hope you find the information helpful. Toryu2020 Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Making no comment on the tsuba or the poster, I just love the idea of "Kane-ie versus Gime-ie" :D -t Quote
