raaay Posted March 15, 2007 Author Report Posted March 15, 2007 Tried to get some close up's off the saya its fading and difficult to get a good shot ! can anyone make out any of the kanji or the content ? thanks ray. Quote
Nobody Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 I modified the photos a little to see clearer images. The first one reads Kenno (献納). That means dedication to a shrine or country. As for the second photo; Last two kanji may read Toyosato (豊郷). That may be a place name or a given name. I am unsure about the first part. It could be Matsumoto (松本), which also means a place name or a family name. Quote
raaay Posted March 16, 2007 Author Report Posted March 16, 2007 Thanks / Nobody for your help with the saya kanji . question ! could it be that the family or owner off the sword , went to a shrine ? and asked for some good luck or a blessing from the shrine before he went of to war !! the reason i say this is , the sword was semi - civilian shin gunto mounted with a handachi saya with a leather combat cover and a civilian tsuka thanks, ray Quote
