CurtisR Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 I've been offered this sword by a guy in Poland...I suspect it's a scam but thought I'd run the Mei through folks more knowledgable than I. He states the swords were obtained in Califoria (Katana and Tanto) and they're supposedly war trophies from WWII. He sent many photos of the blade, kissaki, etc. and it appears to be decent to my un-professional eye. Does anyone recognize the signature? Thanks in advance! Quote
DirkO Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 If it's an unsolicited mail, I'd be very cautious. His name wouldn't happen to be Pavel Nowak ? Quote
leo Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 Hi, the name of the smith seems to be Hagashiyama Yoshihira. What makes you think it is a scam? If you really think so, simply give the name of the seller and plenty of decent people from Poland and elsewhere could tell you wether or not they had bad experience with this seller. Regards Quote
CurtisR Posted June 27, 2011 Author Report Posted June 27, 2011 Why yes Dirk, it IS Pawel Nowak from Poland...I suspect it's not legit., as he wouldn't answer 1) how he obtained my email address and 2) how he intended to ship it, etc. I am always very cautious of un-solicited offers, as I see this type of thing all the time in my business and it rarely works out well :D . DirkO Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 I think he usually preys on new members on forums. I would stay clear of him. Do a search on Pavel Nowak on this forum and you'll find out you're not the first. eg. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9400&hilit=nowak Quote
watsonmil Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 Dear Curtis, The Pawel Nowak SCAM has been at this for years. ... Ron Watson Quote
CurtisR Posted June 27, 2011 Author Report Posted June 27, 2011 Thank you Ron, I'm glad my intuition was correct...I'm new to the Board, and really appreciate the input. I'm doing a lot of reading and learning! Best Regards, Curt R. Quote
edzo Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Hi Curtis, I'm relatively new but have seen him make similar posts and inquiries on other similar sites and noticed that the same pitch has been or ends up here. I think he is out there farming in my honest opinion, but its only based upon my observed speculation. I would be suspect. Ed F. Quote
sanjuro Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Lets not beat around the bush guys...... Powel Nowak is a damned crook plain and simple. Avoid him like the plague. Quote
edzo Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Members, I wonder if there is any connection with a "Maskim" that contacted me from Russia with some pretty decent looking Asian arms which included nihonto, armor and muskets for sale from Russia. I requested some details and proof of ownership etc and never heard back. Just sharing, be cautious. This happened months ago but i remembered the name. Ed F Quote
Brian Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I thought I had added into the registration email..a warning about Pawel Nowak? Please can someone who has registered recently (past 2 weeks) advise if the warning is there, and visible? Brian Quote
edzo Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Hi Brian, I saw that, I was just sharing my experience in the thread. Ed F. Quote
drdata Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 When will this guy just change his name? Clearly the Pawel cat is out of the bag. And yes, very well known for scamming new collectors of WWII materials as well. Regards Quote
