Surfson Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 First character is the No from Mino, then Kaneshige. To me it's odd, but possibly No Kaneshige? Others more knowledgeable will weigh in. Quote
David McDonald Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Dear Ivan In Hawley's book KAN 538 Lists a smith that worked in Gifu during the showa period later david Quote
george trotter Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Although Kaneshige is a correct reading...This can also be read as SEKI KINJU...which I think more likely. The Kinju name was a long line of smiths of Seki in Mino Province in koto to shinshinto days. This modern Kinju is listed in Hawlwy as KIN 25 ...it says "Kinju...Mino....1926". I think the reason he is also given as Kaneshige KAN 538 is that Yasu Kizu, who wrote Hawley's book, liked to "cover both readings". Regards, George Quote
