Left hand side is: Umetada Shige______ (I cannot see the last one)

Just off the top of my head from memory-

Probably later Edo Umetada work. If you pop open Harry Watson's Nihonto Koza Kodogu Volume- I suspect he will prove to be one of the Umetada Shige_____ listed there.

I'd thought such guys very unlikely to be gimei, but the NTHK bounced a fellow listmember's signed later Edo Umetada at the NTHK shinsa. So always a chance it is gimei.

If you can produce a better image of the last character under the 'Shige', I will look it up for you.

There were a couple of generations from memory. Your tsuba is signed Yamashiro no Nuni Nishijin Jû Umetada Shigeyoshi.

Looks typical of his work, and I suspect Ford it is the flash making it look bad. Ray, try taking pics in the sunlight, or better still in broad daylight but under shade, I find for best results, use a scanner with the room lights turned off and the scanner lid up.

Cheers

Richard

HI

thanks, Curran for your help.

thanks, Rich T / for the the tips on the photos and the translation .

do not know when the next sunny day will be here

it's bloody frozen at the moment.

will try to get better pics soon??

Ford . Rich T / is correct with the flash making it look bad, the tsuba

has nice deep black patanation to it and feels good to touch

" the tsuba that is "

this tsuba i have owned for well over 15 years and came through

a private purchase including a sword blade and a broken tsuka

so i would say its not been [ tampered with ] i hope.

regards

ray.
