historian2 Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 Here is a copper tsuba, can't figure out what the design represents. Erich Quote

Brian Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 Doesn't look like a real mei to me (or a real tsuba?) Hope I am wrong. Brian Quote
raven2 Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 I am afraid I am with Brian, it doesn't look like it authentic to me. Quote
sanjuro Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 I'm with Brian and Raven 2 on this I'm afraid. Theres something (actually a few things) that don't seem 'quite right'. Quote
Ford Hallam Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 I'd suggest this is the work of an "enthusiastic amateur" probably Japanese and not originally made to deceive. regards, ford Quote
Pete Klein Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 I believe this along with the hawk/small birds tsuba we often see and others are late Edo pieces of cast brass. They were probably manufactured in numbers and sold either for use or souvenir. This one has too much dirt around the seppadai (which is clean) to make me believe it is of current production. The mei is most likely of no relevance. Quote
