Marius Posted Wednesday at 12:20 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 12:20 PM (edited) A cherished tsuba from my erstwhile collection - a nice example of a Northern tachi guard. Made of yamagane, and although quite small, it must have been mounted on a tachi or - more likely - kodachi, which the rather large nakago ana indicates. It would have been mounted with an o-seppa. One of my fellow-collectors has a similar tsuba and a matching o-seppa repeating the pattern on the guard. Late Muromachi. 6.8 x 6.4 x 0.5 cm Find me another one for this price: $500 (EUR 440) plus shipping. Edited Wednesday at 12:55 PM by Marius 3 1 Quote
Curran Posted Friday at 03:31 PM Report Posted Friday at 03:31 PM (edited) These Northern mid muromachi tachi tsuba are very rare. I've only seen about 7 to 9 in my 25 years 28 years of collecting. I've only owned 1. The other 2 or 3 belonged to you. Anything else has been in Japan. As I stated once before, I always find these sell back to Japan. They are valued for their mix of Ainu and Yamato people aesthetic in a time when northern Japan was a bit more "Wild West" (American parlance) I've had this NBTHK paper for a while and thought it might be the same as yours. Close, but not the same. If someone buys your tsuba, I will send them the papers for the price of shipping the papers. Fraternal twin examples. Edited Friday at 03:32 PM by Curran 3 3 1 Quote
