Kanenaga Posted Sunday at 08:37 PM Report Posted Sunday at 08:37 PM I think I am noticing a trend among some Japanese nihonto websites to no longer display the asking prices for some items. Is this perhaps an unintended consequence of NihontoWatch? Quote

Some sites that deal with higher end items will list prices all the way up to 9,999,999 yen and "Please enquire" above that. Aoi-Art is, as far as I know, the only dealer website that will give a price for everything, even items in the hundreds of millions. Quote
Natichu Posted Monday at 03:04 AM Report Posted Monday at 03:04 AM I have also noticed something of a glitch with Nihontowatch in that it seems like if the price can't automatically be located, it is listed as "Ask". There are quite a few listings for pieces that have already been sold, and so had the price removed. These are then picked up by Nihontowatch as still active listings in error, but without a price and so an "Ask" priced item. Still a tremendously useful resource obviously, but not infallible obviously. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted Monday at 03:12 AM Report Posted Monday at 03:12 AM Some dealers appear to use the please enquire for anything over say three million yen, however after emailing them the price was well below that. In some cases it may be the terms of the consignor. Quote
Brian Posted Monday at 06:15 AM Report Posted Monday at 06:15 AM Or different prices for different groups of people No, not implying Westerners pay more, but maybe frequent customers get a break, or export has a premium for the hassle etc. Quote
Hoshi Posted Monday at 07:59 AM Report Posted Monday at 07:59 AM Hi, Quote I have also noticed something of a glitch with Nihontowatch in that it seems like if the price can't automatically be located, it is listed as "Ask". When you see an error like this or oddity in the data, please drop me a PM with the exact item that is faulty or report on the site directly on the item with the flag icon. Cheers, Hoshi 1 Quote
