Ron M Posted yesterday at 02:48 AM Report Posted yesterday at 02:48 AM Hi again to you who have time to answer: when you see a wakizashi, like this one attached, that is 53cm Nagasa and a nakago as seen, can you assume only machi okuri, or maybe suriage. If the later, could it have been a short katana? Just wondering on thoughts about these long waki. Regards and thanks Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted yesterday at 03:14 AM Report Posted yesterday at 03:14 AM From the Sugata it would more likely to have been a polearm, such as a Naginata or Nagamaki. 3 Quote
Ron M Posted 13 hours ago Author Report Posted 13 hours ago Thank you. I’m not sure how to know that information. You are saying it could not be a wak at all? Interesting for sure Quote

ROKUJURO Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago To be sure about that we should see very good photos of the BÔSHI, if possible in magnification. Dark background, dark room, using spotlights, sworg oriented tip-upwards. Quote
Ron M Posted 12 hours ago Author Report Posted 12 hours ago This a pic I posted a while back on a different thread. It does show the hamon and somewhat the boshi. I rotated the picture to show better, I believe. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago That one is better. And now the BÔOSHI in magnification so we can see how the HAMON ends on the MUNE, or if there is a KAERI 1 Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago It is difficult to see the details in pictures. To me it would seem like it is hira-zukuri (flat sides with no ridgeline) in form? That would make me think it would be original size hira-zukuri wakizashi. Hira-zukuri geometry is pretty rare in naginata and katana, there are few examples but they are more common in wakizashi length. Some of the longer ones are 50 to 60 cm in length. 2 Quote
