My personal guess would be that the second haikan simply went missing. The late-war kaigunto, with authorized single haikan, didn't have gold gilding on the fittings. Quote

mecox Posted January 3 Report Posted January 3 Seki ju Ishihara Kanenao saku KANENAO (兼直), real name Ishihara Kanenao (石原金直), born May 25th 1908, he studied under Amachi Suzuichi (天地鈴市) and worked as a guntō smith. Registered as a Seki tosho 27 October, 1939 (Showa 14) age 31. Early in the war made some stainless steel Takayama-to.
