SwordGuyJoe Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Can you please help me on this mei? I know the last is one is yuki and a kao, but not sure on the others. Thank you. Quote
sencho Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 First glance maybe Yokoytani Hideyuki but does not sound right, even to a gaijin, so maybe Yokoya Hideyuki.... Cheers! Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 横谷英行 Yokoya Hideyuki from Edo. John Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 5, 2010 Author Report Posted April 5, 2010 Can you tell me anything about him? My references are strictly swords. Here are a couple photos of the f/k set. Thanks in advance! Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 5, 2010 Author Report Posted April 5, 2010 Any thoughts? If not, I sincerely appreciate the insight and help. Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 In the Haynes Index it only gives where he worked, Edo, no dates, just that the example quoted shows a Goto stylisation. John Quote
reinhard Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 According to Mr.Robinson's inventory of the Baur-collection there was an unrecorded fitting-maker by the name of Yokoya TERUYUKI working in Edo during 19th century. Signature and especially Kao look quite different though. reinhard Quote
sencho Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Joe, Following on from Reinhard's post, I just saw that Murtha (Japanese Swordguard Artists) also mentions Teruyuki... late Edo.... does not mention Yokoya or give an example of the kanji used... He suggests that this particular Teruyuki also signed Ryujoshi and under that name he mentions Arai Eizui, also known as Teruyuki. The name Teruyuki never occurred to me when I looked at the kanji fist time. He also lists Hideyuki as Mid Edo.... and only mentions "Yokoya style" Cheers! Quote
