nulldevice Posted December 18, 2025 Report Posted December 18, 2025 You should be able to figure this one out by yourself. The kanji are really easy kanji to see and draw and are commonly used with few strokes. I'd recommend https://kanji.sljfaq.org ...as well as "Translating Mei" tool we have here: It will only make you more capable if you do this yourself because you ask about a LOT of swords here and many of them have very easy mei to read. 1 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted December 18, 2025 Report Posted December 18, 2025 I see why you're thinking Mantetsu - that last kanji on the second photo is "Spring" and 90% of Mantetsu dates are Spring. In actuality, though, there were a few other smiths that used seasons, too. 1 Quote
Conway Posted December 18, 2025 Report Posted December 18, 2025 What you should have said is, “I hope it wasn’t already posted in a more appropriate section of the forum…” I didn’t see it in the translation or Military section, so you’re good! It’s signed 村上治久 - Murakami Haruhisa and dated Spring 1944. Too bad you didn’t see it sooner. The seller actually increased the price from when they first listed it. I would not make assumptions about it being traditionally made. Quote
Hector Posted December 18, 2025 Report Posted December 18, 2025 @Swords Just out of interest, why do you think it's traditional? I honestly can't make out any details of the blade from those photos. Quote
Swords Posted December 18, 2025 Author Report Posted December 18, 2025 I said I think it was I should have said similar I was coping and pasted the Mei and clicked on the photo as I did before but for some reason it wouldn’t work I just have to learn how to read it but thanks for the heads up Quote
