hello

just join this forum as I am a newbie to Japanese swords. Buy my first sword not too long ago and now I find my self in need to expend my collection.

Found someone selling this sword. They say its made by Okada Yoshiie Seki. But i cant find the maker from my search.

Any help will be very appreciated.

Thank you Ray

Is this sword considered to be good addition to modest collection?

There is no arsenal stamp on this sword.

Krzysio, need to  see more of the blade and nakago (tang).  Looks like saya has been  repainted.  But looks a nice sword to start.  Here is the smith:

I do like this sword but with repainted saya just not sure if it is something will appreciate. It will probably bother me forever.

Asking price is $1200, is this a good deal?

Thanks

That's an average market value for an officer gunto.  The saya was made to be covered by a leather cover.  They often go missing over the past 80 years.  You can see the remains of the leather retention strap on in the seppa just above the tsuba.  The end with the snap is broken off, which is also pretty common as the leather gets dry and brittle over time.

Thank you Bruce. That makes sense now. Wish they never repainted and let it be. I just purchased officer type 98 sword that has a leather cover for the same price.

Will just keep on looking for nice example that is full original. I just start collecting and actually very surprise how many are out there for sale. See new swords pup up every week.

Just going to wait till something i like very much comes along.
