Grey Doffin Posted September 27, 2025 Report Posted September 27, 2025 Hi Aaron, Tom would be classified as a tanto (knife length) and looks to be something put together after WWII, possibly from the reshaped end of a broken sword, to sell to members of the occupation forces as a souvenir. It may also date to late 19th or early 20 century, but for the same purpose (souvenir). Shorty is a carpenter's tool - a good sharp knife. Grey 1 Quote
Lewis B Posted September 27, 2025 Report Posted September 27, 2025 The short woodworking tool is called a kiradashi. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 27, 2025 Report Posted September 27, 2025 Might help, with the top one, to remove the handle. You can see the wooden peg that goes through it horizontally. Might be tapered and only come out in one direction, but simply tap it out and the handle will come off. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted September 27, 2025 Report Posted September 27, 2025 The short one is a KIRIDASHI or KOGATANA. Quote
