Satsuma Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Does anyone have any information on this fittings maker? I put his full kanji name above. I believe he worked c. 1850 but I know nothing else about him. Any information gladly welcomed.... Thank you Fukushima Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 I can find no artist that uses these kanji 菊地序定 Kikuchi Tsugusada. There is an Hayashi Fujiwara Tsugusada 林藤原継定. I thought maybe the kanji had been turned around and it may be Sadatsugu. Still no artist using those kanji. John Quote
Nobody Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 AFAIK, 菊池序定 (Kikuchi Tsunesada) was a pupil of 菊池序克 (Kikuchi Tsunekatsu). Here are some examples. Ref. http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_ ... ID=1799402 Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 That explains it, I read it as Tsugu. In Haynes it mentions him as a student of Kikuchi Tsunekatsu, as Koichi san said, as well as the first son of Tsunetomo. Kinzo Tsunesada 金蔵常定, Edo Kanda ju, died c. 1800-25, Kikuchi 菊地 Fujii 藤井 originally Shibuya 澁谷 John Quote
Satsuma Posted March 21, 2010 Author Report Posted March 21, 2010 Thank you both. However what school did he belong to or to put in another way, what lineage did he spring from? Fukushima Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Tsunekatsu was a student of Inagawa Naokatsu, who was a student of Yanagawa Naomasa, who was a student of Yokoya Somin (I) and of the Yoshioka school. John Quote
