William Jennings Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 Hey all! Can anyone help me with the translation of the Mei from the katana I recently bought? Thanks in advance! Quote
William Jennings Posted September 13 Author Report Posted September 13 Wow! Thank you for the quick reply @Ray Singer. It doesn’t look like the other Yasuhiro signatures I see online, so do you think it’s gimei signature? Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 I don't know which Yasuhiro this might be. There were several individuals. The nakago is suriage, and that affects the appearance as well, compared with reference examples. https://nihontoclub.com/view/smiths/meisearch?type=All&mei_op=contains&mei=康廣 Quote
William Jennings Posted September 13 Author Report Posted September 13 Okay! So is the most accurate way to figure out which specific yasuhiro made the sword to compare the signature to online examples? Or is there a more accurate way? I’d love to know which one made it Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 You would need to post photos of the blade to help narrow down the school & period the sword is from. Otherwise you're basically trying to find an "A.Smith" in the phonebook with no other reference point. 1 Quote
William Jennings Posted September 13 Author Report Posted September 13 Okay! I will do that in the Nihonto section! Thank you both for your help! Quote
Rivkin Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 Is yasurime takanoha? It also does look like end Muromachi or early shinto. With takanoha at this time you usually deal with Mino blades which is not a stellar match for the name. Will be interesting to see the sword itself. Quote
