Ronald Aguirre Posted July 10 Report Posted July 10 Hey everyone! I believe this is an authentic civil gunto. It’s Mumei but it’s compete. The seller seems honest. He says it has a small “fissure” on the edge of the blade and I have included pics. The questions I have are, is this a fatal flaw? Is the tassel authentic? Any thoughts would be helpful! Quote
ChrisW Posted July 10 Report Posted July 10 Ask for a picture of the same spot on the other side, that will be telling. Quote
Ronald Aguirre Posted July 10 Author Report Posted July 10 Okay! But I don’t think it extends to the other side! Quote
Matsunoki Posted July 10 Report Posted July 10 Ron, that looks horrible. Personally I would walk away whether it’s on the other side or not. 3 Quote
Brian Posted Thursday at 06:09 AM Report Posted Thursday at 06:09 AM Agree. Even if not fatal, that is not one you want to see on a blade. Strictly militaria now, it's job as Nihonto is over. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted Thursday at 06:23 AM Report Posted Thursday at 06:23 AM Tassel looks rather crude as well, this may even be a so called island sword. Quote
Jacques Posted Thursday at 04:18 PM Report Posted Thursday at 04:18 PM Quote it's job as Nihonto is over. A showato is not a nihontö and never has been. Quote
Tohagi Posted Thursday at 10:04 PM Report Posted Thursday at 10:04 PM same advice: stay away ! Not even sure this is a Japanese sword ( shape is wrong, no hamon and aguire !) ... Save your money for a better shot ! Quote
J-Dubb627 Posted Saturday at 01:16 AM Report Posted Saturday at 01:16 AM I would agree with the sentiment of steering clear of this sword. Quote
