Bosco Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Hi, I’m a bit concerned about this habaki. Its a gold foiled one. The inside seem to developed this but I’m not sure its rust or just normal patina for antique Habakai . Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Rust only forms on iron, it's advisable to clean the inside of a Habaki with tissue to remove accumulated gunk. 1 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Minh, do you see the gold foil clearly? To me, it looks like a brass HABAKI that was gold-plated. It is important to remove any oil that may have gathered inside the HABAKI to prevent the build-up of Verdigris. 1 Quote

Previous photo you can clearly see a thin layer of gold from the bottom. it’s delivered like this so im trying to prevent or clean it up the right way. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Thank you, I see it now! Looks a bit different from other TSUBA that I have seen. Every day, you learn something new! Cleaning might be a bit difficult on this one! Quote
Franco Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Base looks like typical copper that was foiled over. Yes, needs careful cleaning. Quote
