sensei215 Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 I am in a bit over my head. I was able to translate the maker "Fujieda Taro Hideyoshi "and the year the sword was made 1 st year of Bunkyu, I think it says that it is a customer order for Kondo Masakatsu. There is another date and something about the execution grounds. I am trying to understand if this is a sword test and if so what it actually was. All help will be greatly appreciated and I will post photos of the blade as soon as it arrives. Tim S Quote
Mark Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 when i saw that sword on eBay it seemed Mike Y had posted the translation, maybe i remember it wrong. You could probably ask Mike as he should have notes about it. Or maybe someoen here can make it out (sort of hard with the angle) Quote
sensei215 Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 He couldn't translate it fully either. Tim S Quote
Nobody Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 As for the Setsudan mei: 酉年十一月十一日於千住 (Tori no toshi 11-gatsu 11-nichi, oite Senju) – 11th day in 11th month of 1861, at Senju 太々土壇拂 (Taitai Dodan-barai) - Taitai (shoulder level) was cut on an earth mound 山田源蔵 – Yamada Genzo Quote
sensei215 Posted March 5, 2010 Author Report Posted March 5, 2010 Thank you very much for the translation. I greatly appreciate your effort. I hope I can return the favor in the future in some small way. It is the first sword I have ever seen that was signed by the maker, dated, custom ordered and with a sword test. Its the first piece I have bought for myself in a long time. Tim S Quote
