Rawa Posted May 14 Author Report Posted May 14 More koshirae photos. This time I didn't bid on steel. 1 Quote
Navy Posted May 14 Report Posted May 14 Seems an old blade fitted in a gunto koshirae. If so, with 5 (at least) mekugi ana, she should have had a busy past... Maybe is just the pic, but the nakago appears to have an odd size/shape compared to the blade. Can you post a pic without tsuba and habaki? Quote
Rawa Posted May 14 Author Report Posted May 14 I dont have blade in hand yet. Samegawa is really convincing that it is actually old blade in customized order koshirae. Nagasa 64.5 cm. Quote
Rawa Posted May 14 Author Report Posted May 14 Some pictures of boshi, hamon and jihada. If it isn't modern assembly I expect some kitae/mune ware but no shintetsu. I can't imagine situation that someody would bring to battle sword with core exposed. 1 Quote
EdWolf Posted May 14 Report Posted May 14 Hi Marcin, The blade is definitely old. Better pictures of the bare blade is necessary to tell you more about the blade. It looks like that the hamon runs off the edge of the blade. Also the kissaki is poorly shaped. The ko-shinogi does not run parallel with the fukura. Maybe it's just the low quality of the pictures. Just my observation en honest opinion. Regards, Ed 1 Quote
Rawa Posted May 14 Author Report Posted May 14 Yes. Hamon runs close to the edge. I will bring better pics after delivery. Quote
Mister Gunto Posted May 16 Report Posted May 16 Definately an older blade refitted for the war. Nice Type 98 koshirae! I love the early pierced tsubas. Quote
Rawa Posted May 19 Author Report Posted May 19 Adding photos. Nakago in "stairs" shape :/ 5 mekugi ana plus one extra filled. 1 Quote
Navy Posted May 19 Report Posted May 19 Hi, the torokusho should be issued only to traditional made blade (I underline should), so good to have one: it confirms the old appearance of your sword (not the quality/condition of it). About the nakago, never seen one like this, really odd. Quote
Matsunoki Posted May 19 Report Posted May 19 Is there a boshi? In image of kissaki it looks like hamon could run off the blade and maybe that has been concealed by strange “polish” on kissaki? Of course could just be a trick of the image. personally I’ve never seen a nakago re-worked in that manner unless it was done to fit into a Kyugunto and then re-done again to fit this koshirae. Quote
Rawa Posted May 19 Author Report Posted May 19 Could it be nagamaki naoshi? It is really tight now. Moto-kasane only 0.5 cm Quote
