Crews Holt Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 My Grandfather’s brother brought this back from Japan during WW2. There aren’t any bladesmith marks or engravings. Can anyone help me identify which type of blade this is? Any information would be helpful. Thanks! Quote
Lilleskit Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 Hi, To help save you some time, you're most likely going to get requests for clear, close-up images of the blade before anyone will be able for help you out. Best regards, Ken Quote
Matsunoki Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 Perfectly genuine old prewar Samurai era sword that looks to be of modest quality in modest quality mountings and in pretty rough condition. How long is it measured from tip to the notch where the tang begins ie excluding the tang? The cutting length appears to have been shortened by moving the tang notches up towards the tip ie by elongating the tang and adding an extra peg hole. can you show a close up of the tip? Quote
Tohagi Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 The pictures are not very good and we need some mesures... At first glance, it's a true nihonto maki okuri 1 habaki length with part of an old hantachi koshirae, at least saya and tsuka... Quote

ChrisW Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 Handachi style fittings, looks to be a 'working class' sword. If you need someone in the midwest to give a more exact in-hand opinion, I am located in central Indiana. Quote
