JeanEB Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 Hi, I wanted to get people's feeling about a kiku/kiku ichi on this blade. I have mostly seen Kiku on Edo-period blades. The overall sugata of this 85cm blade, length, sori (2.5cm) all point me to an early Muromachi period, but I haven't seen many Kiku mon on blades of that period. Is it likely to have been added later, kind of as a gimei?? Quote
Ray Singer Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 Hi Jean, unfortunately I would not take this one too seriously. Looks like something intended to be passed off as a kikusaku (Gotoba collaboration work of the earliest Kamakura period). Best regards, Ray 1 Quote
JeanEB Posted May 13 Author Report Posted May 13 Hi Ray, thanks for the quick response. I didn’t really consider it trying to pass as kamakura as an option! The blade just doesn’t For my own learning, in between Gotoba and Edo period, has the chrysanthemum been used at all? Quote
Ray Singer Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 There are no individuals I know of who legitimately signed kikuichi during the Muromachi period. The fact as well that it is inscribed tachi-mei leans in that direction of a gimei kikusaku. 2 Quote
