nihonto1001 Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Hello, Would someone send me correct kanji in text or html for this phrase: "Long Live the Soul of the Samurai"? I would like to incorporate it into my website. I might be able to figure it out, but it would probably read strange. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jon Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Just for fun I have tried to formulate something equivalent. I hope someone will correct it. 永久に侍気質 John Quote
Ford Hallam Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 If we accept the notion of the soul as being immortal wouldn't just seem a bit pointless to call for long life for it? Putting these two concepts; 'long life' and 'soul of the samurai' seems a bit incongruous. Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Part of the reason I used 'Spirit of the Samurai'. John Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Evening all, I guess something with: Banzai(万歳)" literally reads ten thousand years (of life)". It is written with the combination of the kanji characters for "ten thousand(万)" and "age(歳) It's worked well in the past..... Just a thought. Cheers Malcolm Quote
nihonto1001 Posted January 26, 2010 Author Report Posted January 26, 2010 Thanks for the responses. My mindset in asking about, "Long Live the Soul of the Samurai" came from the samurai sword being referred to as "The Soul of the Samurai". Because I am a collector, I feel it is my duty to preserve the swords that I have taken responsibility for. Thus, "Long Live" comes from the preservation aspect. But, if it sounds wrong, thanks, this is the whole reason for my request. Jon Quote
