First time poster, glad to be here!

I have in my possession a Kai gunto. I am having a difficult time finding the maker. It has no armoury stamp and no anchor symbol. The kanji is on one side of the nakgo only. The picture is, well, crap. But for right now it is the best I can muster. I will attempt to draw out the kanji or make a rubbing when time permits. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Kicked the old scanner into gear for a better shot. Also, I noticed some small markings on the tsuba, which I pointed out. The one with the question mark is only a small line, which may or may not be intentionally applied. Thanks

Hello Barry. Unfortunately, no, it is not in good condition. Some small nicks to the ha, although not fatal. And some small dings to the mune and a minute chip to the kissaki. Oxidation is not EXTREMELY bad but overall the condition is just heartbreaking. I'm researching to justify restoration costs. Thanks

Maybe; 播磨守藤原正道 - Harima no kami Fujiwara Masamichi

It might be a Shinto ca. 1690. :?:

Thanks a lot for the info. I'll look into it. Anyone have any facts about this smith?

Got someone who seconds the translation of Harima no kami Fujiwara Masamichi and placed him in the Settsu province around 1684.... Did I mention how exciting this is? Antiques are not my area, so this is a new experience :D Anyone know where I can check next for more info????

Thanks
