1st Pattern Aluminiun Tsuka Type 95

Hi all, been learning a lot from this forum,  is there an estimate to how many ot the Type 95's were produced with the 1st pattern aluminium tsuka (where the screw passes through the ito wrap on one side)? I know it was a short 9 monthish production run?

I just realized the second photo, middle image, shows production of these from July '38 - June '39.  So, knowing how many 95s the industry was making per year would tell us something.

The only production chart I have is from 1941-1945

 

If 1200 is a fair number for previous years, then that should be our estimate for these.  Thomas, or Erns has a good idea of the ending copper number, 6700ish?, so if we have a know highest number for the version 1 tsuka .....

I've had 2, serial numbers 9811 and 10506.

9811 I would count, 10506 is another sub variant I think where they adjusted the ito.

 

Mines 8650 so thats 1161 possible so far? Will do more digging for examples.

It's 1200 for the month on average isn't it? 24,000 for 1941. I think the number for these is way lower than that though. Production must have ramped up as plans progressed for war?

It's the Gifu variant of the idea.  You can see it in the top photo of Stegel's diagrams.

 

I wish he, or Steve Shamsy, were here.  They could clear it all up.  But I do think you are right that the years prior to '41 had slightly lower production numbers.

I try to track NCO serial numbers for my own understanding of who produced in the various serial number ranges. I recorded an IIJIMA at 13320東 with the first pattern tsuka. I also recorded an IIJIMA at 13176東, but did not annotate whether it had the early non-symmetrical tsuka or not. Like Bruce said, best to wait for the input of the experts.

The Suya serial number range for asymmetrical hilts is 6787東 to 9811東.  Stegel is the only one who can narrow it down further.
