Bob K Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Hello all, I'm wondering if you can give me any info and a possible value for the following sword. I know the pics aren't the greatest, but this is all I have to work with at this time. http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7a.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7b.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7c.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7d.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7e.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7f.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7g.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7h.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7j.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7k.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7L.jpg http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/pics/7m.jpg Thanks in advance Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Hi Bob, You're right; the pictures aren't easy to work from. Looks like it might be a real Japanese sword (not a fake), but not in the best condition. The green paint on the saya and red on the tsuba don't belong (someone trying for an X-mas theme?), and there appears to be quite a bit of rust pitting on the blade. It would help if we could see better pics and a couple of the nakago. Maybe someone else can tell you more from these pics. Grey Quote
DirkO Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Grey, The auction description on that site says : Genuine Wakizashi (short Samurai sword) by Yamashiro circa 1650 A.D. w/ Non-commissioned officer’s metal scabbard Maybe that's a starting point right there :-) http://engstromauctions.com/HouserOct3/flyerforweb.htm Quote
Stephen Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Bob IMHO pass on it and save for a sound wak in good mounts, youll be glad you did. Dont even think about the katana something really wrong with the kissaki Quote
Gabriel L Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 I agree with Stephen, this just has way too many problems (and the problems are too serious) to be worth spending money on. Save your money and pick up something that's in better condition and is better made. Quote
