Swords Posted September 22, 2023 Report Posted September 22, 2023 I saw this sword and would not normally pay this much but was intrigued by its story My concerns are is it what it’s claimed to be and is price reasonable? So let me see what others think about it 1 Quote
John C Posted September 23, 2023 Report Posted September 23, 2023 Steve: I can't make any judgement on authenticity, however I think 5 grand is a bit much for a showato - even one in mint condition. But if you are a Kanemichi collector, then a mint example would be the pinnacle of your collection. John C. Quote
Swords Posted September 23, 2023 Author Report Posted September 23, 2023 I agree it is a bit much So you don’t think it’s traditional made? Quote

Bruce Pennington Posted September 23, 2023 Report Posted September 23, 2023 Not old, a Inaba kaigunto: J3 Japanese Naval sword in kaigunto mountings "Inanami", tassel | eBay An old blade in kaigunto, signed: WW2 Japanese KAI GUNTO SWORD, OFFICERS, SIGNED, Old Family Blade | eBay But you're right, hard to find one without any damage to saya, or rust on the blade. John C Posted September 23, 2023 Report Posted September 23, 2023 7 hours ago, Swords said: So you don’t think it’s traditional made? Could be traditionally made because I don't see any seki or showa stamps. But I also don't see a star stamp or defined nioi on the hamon. If I had to flip a coin on a sword dated 1943, I would lean toward showato. Remember too that many RJT smiths also made showato - but did them very well. John C. 1 Quote
