Eds Posted July 19, 2023 Author Report Posted July 19, 2023 Thank you Ray for the QUICK answer. Would this be a factory or traditionally made Nihonto Quote
Ray Singer Posted July 19, 2023 Report Posted July 19, 2023 It looks like a showato. Check carefully for an arsenal stamp. Quote
John C Posted July 19, 2023 Report Posted July 19, 2023 Ed: I agree with Ray. These dark areas could indicate oil quenching. John C. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 20, 2023 Report Posted July 20, 2023 Interesting 'tadpole' tsuba! 1 Quote
Tensho Posted July 20, 2023 Report Posted July 20, 2023 I would double check that the tsuka is original to this. Seller had tons of gunto parts, not sure why he never "completed" this. This is the correct tsuba for this: Quote

I have seen purely civil tsuba on WWII are-fits. Not doubting your point, just interested. Quote

But IMO, if the original owner of the tsuka went out of their way to have a matching bamboo theme fuchi and kashira they would get the tsuba as well. This is OPs tsuka. Quote

Eds Posted July 21, 2023 Author Report Posted July 21, 2023 Looking closely at the nakago, I don't see any arsenal stamp. I cannot get the habaki off to look for a "w". Experience tells me not to force or bang on it. The hamon extends to the tip of the kissaki. Quote
