Nanbokuchu Posted April 26, 2023 Report Posted April 26, 2023 Very much thank you in advance. I think the first part says it's Yamato-den and the last part it has honami approval/appraisal? Quote
SteveM Posted April 26, 2023 Report Posted April 26, 2023 Its Honami appraised, but the appraisal has eroded and is now illegible. Yamato Tegai Osuriage mumei with Honami Chikayoshi attribution in gold inlay, which has been worn down and is now illegible. Well-made, and the jiba shows the characteristics of the Yamato school of Tegai. just under 2 shaku 3 sun Viewed and appraised by Tanzan Hendō 2011 April 2 1 Quote

Nobody Posted April 27, 2023 Report Posted April 27, 2023 One correction, Honami’s writing is not gold inlay (金象嵌銘), but Kinpunmei (金粉銘). 1 1 Quote
Gakusee Posted April 27, 2023 Report Posted April 27, 2023 8 hours ago, Nobody said: One correction, Honami’s writing is not gold inlay (金象嵌銘), but Kinpunmei (金粉銘). …. which would make it a later Honami attribution (while we know this from the actual translation, it is a good standard shortcut when looking and kinzogan vs kinpun mei and are wondering about the dating / reliability etc of the attribution). 1 Quote

Sorry for my ignorance, but how does it differ from kinzogan vs kinpun in terms of reliability and dating of the attribution? Quote
Gakusee Posted April 27, 2023 Report Posted April 27, 2023 Please refer to the brilliant publication by Markus Sesko: https://markussesko.com/2013/02/14/the-honami-family/ In there you will read about which generations are more reliable than others as well as the different types of mei: kinzogan, kinpun, shumei, shusho etc 1 Quote
