Brian Posted March 8, 2023 Report Posted March 8, 2023 I know very little about Japanese calligraphy, but this is coming up on a local auction in a week or 2, and I was wondering if anyone could translate or tell me anything about this? It is quite appealing to me for some reason. 39x30cm 5 Quote
Matsunoki Posted March 8, 2023 Report Posted March 8, 2023 Probably stating the obvious but simply from the slight foxing, discolouration and some water staining at the bottom it looks like it’s got some age. Also looks an original work rather than a print. The frame has an early 20thC look. Any labels on the back? Often the back tells more than the front. Quote

Brian Posted March 9, 2023 Author Report Posted March 9, 2023 Thank you very much Morita san. I appreciate the assistance. Quote
rematron Posted March 9, 2023 Report Posted March 9, 2023 Very cool that the piece "is quite appealing to me for some reason" in that the calligrapher was able to convey it's meaning somewhat to people just by the style and boldness alone, without the complete necessity of understanding the kanji. Great skill. Quote
