pcfarrar Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 Can anyone assist me with a translation of this woodblock print? I believe it depicts a member of the 47 ronin committing seppuku. Thanks, Peter Quote
pcfarrar Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 Is there anything that can be done to preserve a woodblock in this condition? (the line in the middle isn't a fold its just where I crudely stitched the two scans together). I'm really after knowing who the samurai in the image is? Quote
Nobody Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 I'm really after knowing who the samurai in the image is? Ah, that is the almost only part I could read. 大星由良之助 - Oboshi Yuranosuke, the leader of the 47 ronin Quote
Guido Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 The name of the historical person is Ōishi Kuranosuke (大石蔵助), which was changed to Ōboshi Yuranosuke (大星由良之助) in the Kabuki play Kanadehon Chūshingura. Quote
