stekemest Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 This tsuba, signed "SHOAMI IESHIGE", was part of a katana I got several years ago. There are some minor traces of gold in line shape left, but they are hard to see. I got varying opinions about this tsuba and would like to know if a consensus about the date is possible. Thank you all very much. Peter Quote
John A Stuart Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Of the Shoami Ieshige they lived concurrently around 1700 to 1750. The tsuba seems right for that period. It needs some TLC. John Quote
stekemest Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 Thank you John. What is TLC? Quote
stekemest Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 I see, thanks. Any hints on how to care for it? It has no active rust. Quote
Martin Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Hi Peter, some times you have to work a little to actually detect those "nests" of red rust. Here is a very good article on hoe to proceed: http://home.earthlink.net/~jggilbert/Cleaning.htm Best, Quote
