Johnbull Posted September 6, 2021 Report Posted September 6, 2021 Can someone tell me if this looks right please. Not in my hands yet, pics supplied by seller.. Description provided in pics. John Quote
Ian B3HR2UH Posted September 6, 2021 Report Posted September 6, 2021 Hi John , with all the forging flaws ( particularly those shown in the fourth and fifth photos ) you should give this a miss . It is no doubt old , maybe late Koto or shinto , but not collectable . Ian Brooks 2 Quote
Johnbull Posted September 6, 2021 Author Report Posted September 6, 2021 Hi Ian, I'm a newbie at this. Can you explain the forging flaws please. What makes it not collectable? I don't mean to be blunt (no pun intended) as I said I'm new to collecting and any info helps. Thanks Quote
nickm Posted September 6, 2021 Report Posted September 6, 2021 All the little black lines you see on the blade are forging flaws. It is an authentic Japanese sword but not something desirable as even though this hobby can span swords 800 years old flaws make them less attractive to potential future buyers. If you are new to collecting and this is your 1st round and it's cheap it is authentic but it's not something that will have much resell value. All that said with a grain of salt as I am relatively new to this as well but so it goes. Quote
Johnbull Posted September 6, 2021 Author Report Posted September 6, 2021 Thanks Phillip, ok yeah I probably paid more than it's worth then approx $500 USD. Not into resale value purely bought as a beginning to a new collection. Quote
Johnbull Posted September 6, 2021 Author Report Posted September 6, 2021 It's short with a 370mm blade length I thought. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted September 6, 2021 Report Posted September 6, 2021 That isn't too bad if you are after a genuine Japanese short sword. Does it come with a handle? Quote
Johnbull Posted September 6, 2021 Author Report Posted September 6, 2021 Hey Pnsshogun No tsuka just as the pics show Quote
