Millsman Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Please help,I have tried to obtain a copy of this book via interlibrary loan to id a dirk. No luck. I do not have (or cannot find MS Paint) on my PC and probably would have a tough time following the instructions on how to modify my picture to be honest.. I have a picture that I can send to anyone who might be kind enough to look through their copy. I do know that the mon is not the navy one. Thanks in advance. Brian Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 George, If the pic isn't too big (under 1 meg) you can email it to me and I'll post it. Not sure what you mean about "mon" though. F&G doesn't list mon (family emblems) really. It isn't a mon that categorizes WW2 Japanese swords, it is the style of mountings. Unless you have a family mon on the back of your kashira, and then the most you can hope for is a general idea of what family through other books. Brian Btw, you can always go to http://www.imageshack.us and easily upload the pic there, and then post the direct link here? Quote
Rich S Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 George - Have you looked at my Japanese Military dirks page? http://www.geocities.com/alchemyst/dirks.htm Rich S Quote
Millsman Posted January 14, 2009 Author Report Posted January 14, 2009 Brian Barrett was kind enough to search his copy of the Fuller book and ID the dirk as the type issued to senior railway officals with the emblem on the tsuka being a 5-7-5 Kiri ( paulonia imperialis) floret type. Many thanks and regards Brian, George Morgan Quote
Brian Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 I have the pic that was emailed, but can only post it when I get home and have access to that email account. Will post it later for others to view. Brian Quote
drbvac Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 I found it in the book - BUT - i also believe and said that although the mounts on the scabbard are the correct shape they are not engraved with the same floral symbols but plain and the blade doesnt look all that great. I think that although it looks at fist glance like the real deal, Fuller says they are rare and if so would be surprised if it is authentic ! THoughts? Quote
