benatthelake Posted August 3, 2020 Report Posted August 3, 2020 Was given this tsuba Kiribako box some years ago. Can anyone provide a translation? No, I don't have the Tsuba. Thanks! Ben Quote
SteveM Posted August 4, 2020 Report Posted August 4, 2020 勘囗郎 It's a name, Kan?rō. I can't make out the middle kanji. There are several metalworkers who had names that might match what is on your box 勘兵郎 Kanpeirō 勘四郎 Kanshirō etc... Could plausibly be the name of the owner rather than the artist, which opens up other possibilities 勘五郎 勘正郎 Quote
Nobody Posted August 4, 2020 Report Posted August 4, 2020 If that is 勘四郎 (Kanshiro), there was a tsuba maker with that name in Edo period. Quote
